The FUN Committee organizes entertaining and social functions, such as game nights, mystery dinners, coffee houses, and inter-generational activities. The purpose is to enjoy ourselves. Events appeal to all members, old and young, married and single, men and women. For more information, contact Lydia Hopkins. Church PicnicThe Annual Picnic and Softball Game is held on a Sunday (usually in mid June) in Kirkwood Park by the water tower and ball field. There will be music and softball. Hot dogs and soft drinks for sale -- bring fruit, chips and a lawn chair. Come one! Come All! Directions: From Eliot Chapel, go west on Argonne. Turn right on Geyer. Turn left on Adams. Turn left into the park on Amphitheater Drive. There's a parking lot by the water tower adjacent to the picnic site, rest rooms and ball field. What is a Coffee House?Every once in awhile, something unusual happens at Eliot Chapel. The lights in the sanctuary
are turned down and musicians can be heard warming up in the music room. The chairs in the
sanctuary disappear, replaced by tables covered with red and white tablecloths, topped by candles
and often a bottle or two of wine. Complimentary brownies, popcorn and coffee are available
in Adams Hall, along with other snacks (furnished by volunteers). On the sanctuary "stage,"
a variety of musical or dramatic homegrown Eliot talent performs throughout the evening:
folk, jazz, barbershop, classical, or rock music (sometimes featuring original works!) and even
occasionally, you'll hear the sound of a didjeridoo.
Chili and Games NightChili & Games Night is a great evening for families. Everyone is asked to either submit a Chili or a Dessert for competition (and also consumption....) or soda, crackers or bread. That's the only admission to a wonderful night for all ages. After dinner and voting, guests play 2 rounds of games. Votes are tallied and "commemorative" aprons (ed. note: these are "cool") are awarded to the winners of the chili and dessert competitions. Little children's games and babysitting are also available. A great tradition at Eliot Chapel - a free event at a free church. |
