Libraries

The Library Committee maintains two libraries at Eliot Chapel:

  1. DuBois Library in Adams Hall:
Its major goal is to contribute to a strong religious community. The collection is maintained and updated to appeal to our diverse congregation, with major emphasis on liberal religion, and Unitarian Universalism in particular. Other important book categories are: comparative religion, social concerns, philosophy, psychology and self-help, local interests and authors, as well as careful selections from literature, science and the arts. It is thought that a wide spectrum of reading choices will foster an awareness of human and spiritual needs and enhance the fullness of life.

  2. Young People's Library next to Visitor's Corner:
The major goal of the children's collection is to support the needs of Religious Education teachers and curricula. It also provides a wide spectrum of reading choices for children and young adults.

The committee is self-supporting through its spring and fall fundraisers (Calendar Sale and Book Fair - see Book Fair). It is responsible for library maintenance, including acquisitions, cataloguing and processing, recordkeeping and an annual inventory. Funds raised also support a diversity of other needs, including: special needs of Eliot Chapel and summer scholarships for young people.

All books, except Reference (blue tape), may be checked out for 2 weeks, with limited renewal privileges.

A Book Suggestion Form is available in both libraries.
