Music Program

Upcoming Music Events             Rehearsal Schedule

Music plays an important part in the life of Eliot Chapel. A wide variety of music enhances our Sunday services. Solos, ensembles and our choirs provide music for Preludes, Interludes and Postludes.

For more information, contact Music Director Jan Chamberlin at

The Music Committee oversees the Chapel's music program and works with the Music Director and Choir Director to select music appropriate to the services and seasons. The committee sets policies for preludes and postludes, anthems, choir rehearsals, and special music services, as well as special non-Sunday morning musical events. It recruits new singers for the choir, feeds volunteers, and oversees the routine maintenance of the pianos. For more information, contact Music Committee chairs Lori Kesler at or Linda Cummings at .

We have two Adult Choirs, one for the first service (Chamber Choir), and one for the second service (Eliot Chorale). The Chamber Choir, directed by Jan Chamberlin, usually rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Eliot Chorale, directed by Leon Burke, rehearses on Sunday mornings, usually at 9:15 a.m.

The Inner Voices will occasionally sing for services and coffee houses. This is an auditioned, a cappella, women's group that sings in the style of "Sweet Honey in the Rock" and learns music by rote. Rehearsals are on Saturdays from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. This choir began in September, 2004.

Chalice Choir, for children in grades 1-6, meets between the services from 10:35 - 10:55 a.m. in the music room. The children will learn musical concepts with games and learn some songs by rote and some by note with "part" singing our goal. They will use the new children's song book from the UU Musician's Network "May This Light Shine". Parental helpers are needed. This group sings in services several times a year and is led by Jan Chamberlin and Nancy Collis. This choir began in September, 2004.

The Handbell Choir performs periodically at Sunday Services and Eliot CoffeeHouses. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:30to 8:30 p.m. Ringers are of all ages and levels of music ability. Experience in reading music is helpful but not necessary. See the Handbell rehearsal schedule. For more information, contact Nancy Collis at

Lead Butterflies is a group of folk instrument players which encourages beginning players. They meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Contact Sue Stivers for more information.

Eliot Winds is our wind ensemble which usually practices two Sundays a month. All interested wind players are welcome. Contact Amy Endrizal at .

Women's Winter Solstice Choiris open to all women of the St. Louis area. They are preparing a singing ritual to be performed at Eliot Chapel on Sat. Dec. 22, 2007 at 8:00pm. Rehearsals are Saturdays Sep.-Dec. from 1:00-2:00 pm. The Winter Solstice Ritual will be free and open to the public.

Occasionally, for special services we convene our own Orchestra.
