Music Director - Jan Chamberlin

Jan Chamberlin

Jan became a Unitarian in 1984 when she and her family joined Eliot Chapel. They were invited to hear music and decided to stay.

Jan has been Music Director since 1997 when she was hired to split the "half-time" music appointment with Dr. Leon Burke, III. They each direct an adult choir, Jan at 9:30 and Leon at 11:00. Their ranks are combined for special Sundays.

Jan also directs the Children's Chalice Choir and leads Inner Voices, a women's a cappella group at Eliot.

She is a graduate of Webster University (B.Mus. Ed. Choral) and currently pursuing a Masters in Church Music, Conducting, from Webster University.

Jan has been the Central Midwest District Liaison to the Unitarian Universalist Musician's Network (UUMN) since 1998. She is currently on the board of directors of the UUMN and served as the Music Coordinator for the 2006 Unitarian General Assembly in St. Louis.

Jan attributes the success of Eliot Chapel's music program to the willingness of members to share their musical talents in worship.

"Just as we come together to hear each other's stories, so we listen to each other's music. We have an inclusive attitude regarding musical genres and instrumentation, resulting in a variety reflective of our congregation."
