I first came to Eliot Chapel in 1979 looking for a church to get married in. Eliot Chapel felt like home right from the start. I loved the look of the place, with its simplicity and warmth. More importantly, though, I found the idea of free religion, where all religious views are respected, if not embraced, very appealing. Thus began a long relationship with the Chapel. Both of our sons attended Religious Education here for many years, and my husband Brian, long church-phobic, even comes now. For many years, I kept a low profile at Eliot, teaching regularly from nursery through 4th grade and attending services when I wasn't teaching. When my sons were little, I also belonged to Women's Alliance. I kept a wide berth of committees and boards and such, though. In 1999, I became R.E. assistant to the Reverend Janet Pillman. With her departure in the summer of 2001, I stepped into the role of Religious Education Facilitator. In 2003 my title was changed to Religious Education Director. My job is to keep the R.E. program, with just shy of 300 registered children, running as smoothly as possible. Whether I succeed or not varies from week to week, I suppose. Among other tasks, I help teachers prepare for their lessons as they request, I set up and maintain the classrooms, I help run a variety of special programs such as Pumpkin Pals, Summer Camp, and holiday programs, and yes, I'm attending committee meetings now, for both the R.E. committee and the Children's Chapel committee. I am fortunate to work for a place I feel passionate about, doing a job I feel passionate about. I can be reached at . |
