REjuvenation!Religious Education News - October 2005REjuvenation! ArchivesA Note from Reverend BonnieBeing Part of EliotOur Religious Education program here at Eliot is so busy and full of good opportunities, sometimes it seems as if it's a community unto itself. We have educational, social, and service events for all ages just in the RE side of church. We have parenting discussions and a chat list, family potlucks and family worship, adult/child interactions, and age-appropriate learning. And while most parents do try to attend services, enjoying that time for their own spiritual growth, some parents are here strictly for the religious education of their children. Of course, all levels of involvement here are welcome. All families have times when they can be more involved, and times when it has to be on the less-involved side. It is important to remember, however, that RE is part of a larger community. RE could not exist without all the other folks running around doing all manner of things here. The whole reason we have a building, playground, music for the kids, and staff to run the program is that the entire community gathers to support these things. Please take a moment to think with gratitude about all those folks around here who do not seem to be part of RE, but whose presence makes this program possible. Our families alone do not support our program. It is the "time, talent, and treasure" of everyone at Eliot that gives us this place in our wider community. May we be grateful to be a part of this community. Faithfully, October RE Calendar

For this reason, we adhere to the NO NUTS OR PEANUTS IN THE BUILDING policy from the Eliot Chapel Nursery School. Some people cannot even touch the oil residue left by peanuts without going into anaphylactic shock. We ask that everyone, not just parents and teachers, abide by this rule. Thank you! UU ParentingThe UU parenting group has moved online. We know how difficult it can be to get to meetings when you have kids at home, so we have created a uuparenting group on Yahoo! Now from the comfort of your own computer you can discuss the issues of raising a UU child with other Eliot parents. Just go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uuparenting to get started. ![]() Playgroup FunIf you've got a little one, we would love for you to join us in the nursery at 9:30 am on Friday, October 14 for play (the kids) and conversation (the adults). We meet the second Friday of each month. We hope to see a lot of our new families there!![]() Chalice Choir... is off to a good start with 11 singers (including 3 boys!) They will be singing preludes in 4-5 services this year, under the direction of Jan Chamberlin and Nancy Collis. They meet between the services in the Music Room. It's not too late to join. The group is open to 1st-7th graders. Youth News - First FridaysOn the first Friday of each month St. Louis area senior youth will gather for worship at different St. Louis area congregations. The worship will be conducted by the youth from the host congregation. If you have attended a youth worship service before then you know that they are special. Youth worship tends to be interactive and non-hierarchical, centered on themes that are of importance to youth with songs and traditions that are passed down from youth conferences (cons). Youth worship is inspiring and fun. Eliot Chapel will host the first First Friday on October 7th. We expect that we will walk a couple blocks to get some pizza with any youth who are interested. We have invited all St. Louis area UU congregations to participate in this program and we have also asked the Ethical Society youth group and the MCC youth group to join in on First Fridays as well. We'll keep you posted on how the First Friday evenings progress, but know this: Eliot has a fantastic youth group and whether or not you have a youth in the program, we can all celebrate the Eliot youth and their advisors. Susan Maginn, Youth Director More Youth NewsKatrina Relief: The Senior High Youth Group will be coordinating Eliot's participation in the Interfaith Partnership/Faith Beyond Walls/St. Patrick Center project for permanent resettlement of Katrina refugees in St. Louis. We need donations of all kinds, including building materials, furniture, large appliances, household items, and nonperishable food items. Cleaning supplies and equipment are especially needed right now. Please see us at our table in Adams Hall after the service. GATEPlease give generously to any 6th grade GATE partner who might approach you in the next few weeks. GATE partners will be walking on October 2 to raise funds to help end world hunger.
