Partner Church

The Partner Church Committee works to raise money to support our Partner church, St. Martin, in Transylvania, Romania. Planning meetings are held monthly. Fundraising projects include an annual Trivia Night, and the sale of needlework and woodcarvings handcrafted by the members of St. Martin.

The committee provides a place for Eliot members interested in a global outreach project and in their Unitarian heritage.

Education for a New Century is a new Partner Committee thrust to aid the youth of Nyaradszentmarton, the rural village in the Transylvanian region of western Romania where St. Martin is located. These students need to attend secondary school, trade schools, and/or college away from the village. Money is very dear there, in the wake of the ruined communist economics. Eliot members who wish to may make donations toward the students' travel, board and tuition packages, which come to about $25 to $35 dollars per month. The Committee Reports below summarizes approaches we have pursued as we have exchanged cultural experiences with our Partner Church, receiving of their arts and craft skills, learning of their needs and their generosity and their emerging hopes as they struggle to shift to a market economy.
