Youth programs include:
Junior Youth Group (Sundays 11:00 - 12:00) is open to all 7th and 8th graders. This group's programming alternates every other year. One year uses the "Neighboring Faiths" curriculum where the youth group explores various religious traditions including a variety of Christian faiths, Judaism, and world religions. During this year, the group often attends worship services of some of the tradition or have guest speakers. The other year uses the "Compass Points" curriculum, which gives our youth opportunities to discover what they believe about life's big questions, to think independently, and to assume responsibility. They also acquire some background in Unitarian Universalist history, polity, and theology so that they can know and express what Unitarian Universalism stands for and to understand that religious liberty is a hard won legacy that continues to need protection.
Senior Youth Group (Sundays 11:00 - 12:00) is open to all 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. The Sunday youth group is an open discussion of topics chosen by the youth and is facilitated by adult advisors. Senior Youth also will attend and participate in one service in the sanctuary each month. Beyond Sunday service hours, the Senior Youth Group participates in lock-ins where they spend the night at Eliot and "cons." Cons happen in the fall, winter, and spring within the Central mid-West District.
Our Whole Lives (O.W.L.) is a sexuality education program that we offer every other year to 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. This program happens on Sunday afternoons from January to March and requires parental consent as well as a commitment to attend all sessions. Some Our Whole Lives sessions are used as the discussion material for Senior Youth Group. These discussions are always facilitated by adults who have been certified to teach the curriculum.
REjuvenation!, the Religious Education newsletter for youth, children and their families, is published monthly, September-June.
