Immigration Justice Book Discussion

Consistent with our UUA commitment to a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person and justice, equity, and compassion in human relations, the immigration justice committee is focused on creating awareness and education about the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers looking for a safe place in the United States.

Come Read with Us: Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here by Jonathan Blitzer

Every year the Immigration Justice Team invites the congregation to read a book that can help us understand the experiences and challenges of those entering our country seeking refuge. This year we have chosen “Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here” by Jonathan Blitzer. The book tells the stories of those who try to make the journey across our border, the activists here who try to help, and the politicians whose decisions since the 60s have led to misguided interference in Central America and the destabilization of these countries. The author is a staff writer at The New Yorker magazine and the book was named one of the top ten books of 2024 by the New York Times.

We will have two gatherings for discussing the book on Sunday, April 27 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm in Room 001, and Wednesday, April 30 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in Adams Hall. Come to either one or both – we’d love to hear your thoughts and questions!
