Please join us for our newly-formed book study group starting Sunday, February 9. We will read and discuss the New York Times bestselling book On Tyranny, written by the world-renowned Yale historian Timothy Snyder. Dr. Snyder’s book has been called “a ‘bracing’ guide for surviving and resisting America’s turn towards authoritarianism,” making it an essential tool in our urgent current fight to protect our democracy.
Using his prodigious knowledge of the 20th century’s dark history of authoritarianism, in On Tyranny Snyder provides 20 clear and actionable lessons on how to resist modern-day despotism. In a time of great uncertainty and instability, On Tyranny emphasizes the importance of being active, conscious, and deliberate participants in resistance.
Our study group will meet twice per month and discuss two lessons per session. Based on these discussions, we will formulate specific recommendations that our Eliot community can take now as we develop our own resistance plan.
On Tyranny can be purchased in a variety of bookstores, including Amazon.
Group size is limited to 10 people. This group is now full. Sign up for the waitlist here.
MEETS: Ten sessions on the second and fourth Sundays of the month starting February 9 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm in Room 006.
