Every Sunday, Eliot Chapel shares half of the offertory with an organization in the community whose work reflects our shared values. This is one way that we care for our community and our neighbors.
In June, Eliot Chapel will share its bounty with Prison Performing Arts (PPA). For over two decades, PPA has helped prisoners, returning citizens, and justice-involved youth build second acts through engagement with the arts. People of color and the LGBTQIA communities are often unfairly and disproportionately targeted by the carceral system and PPA’s work in juvenile and adult correctional centers provides opportunities to heal these collective injustices. PPA denounces behaviors fueled by prejudice and is fully committed to being an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory organization. Locations where PPA’s work is done include the men and women’s prisons in Vandalia, Pacific and Bowling Green, Hogan Street Regional Youth Center and both the St. Louis City and St. Louis County Detention Centers. PPA nurtures the discipline, teamwork and communication skills necessary for successful reentry into society and offers continuing programs for participants who have been released.
