October's Volunteer Spotlight: Sara Fleming!

Sara Fleming: A Dedicated

A Dedicated "Do-er"

Sara sees or hears of a need at Eliot and works to fulfill that need. If she cannot do it herself, she helps find someone who can! Sara's bright smile, positive attitude, and generous spirit are contagious. She works fast and gets things done, whether it is showing up with decorations, welcoming visitors donning a blow-up Unicorn costume, playing the part of "The Queen" at The Madrigal, or helping to organizing a group to supervise playtime for the kids during Summer Services, Sara steps up and makes it happen.

Sara has just wrapped up a three-year term on the Board of Trustees on which she served as President in her third year. She has worked tirelessly on Trivia Night, Madrigal, The Transition Team, Communications Team, Summer Services Fellowship with children, RE, Greentree Festival booth, and Canvass calls, to name a few. When special treats show up for the kids every Sunday at coffee hour? That is Sara! Her most recent involvement is SPARC (where busy, young(ish) Unitarian Universalist spiritual seekers come together for good vibes once a month). The woman has boundless energy!

She exemplifies the UU Seven Principles in her life and actions. She sees no barriers or differences in her fellow congregants. She leads by example and moves forward with exuberance and joy. She shows all of us what true generosity and grit look like. She contacts people on a regular basis to see how it's going and asks what she can do to help. All of these characteristics positively impact Eliot Chapel. Sara comes up with lots of great ideas on how to solve problems, how technology can assist, and how to have a good time while helping out.

When asked why she enjoys volunteering at Eliot Chapel?

“I have been attending Eliot Chapel for about 20 years. It is important to me to volunteer at Eliot because I have gained so much from

Eliot over the years and Eliot does such great work in the community and beyond. I have grown in wonderful ways personally since first walking through those red doors because of the support and challenge and opportunities that Eliot has provided. If I can give back to our little community so that those opportunities can continue to be available for others, and so that the amazing people of our congregation can go out and do the important work that needs to be done, I am honored to do so. Plus, I just love hanging out with all of the eccentric, brilliant, compassionate people who attend services each week."
