Letter from Rev. Dee, September 2024

Dear Beloveds,

My first communication with you as your new part time Assistant Minister is one of contrasts. I am blessed to begin my first week at Eliot Unitarian Chapel. I will be working with the Welcome Team and the Pastoral Care Team.

Yet, one of our staff suffered an almost indescribable tragedy this past week. Although some of you may know this, others may not. Debby Lovell, our beloved Administrative/Communications Assistant, lost her husband in a tragic accident as he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. We need to keep Debby and her daughter in our thoughts. We need to give her time and space to grieve.

We are also grieving with her and for her. Sometimes we just need to talk when tragedies seem to make no sense. Sometimes we just need to talk when life seems so unfair. Sometimes we just need to talk about things even when at the present moment there may be nothing we can do. As you know your Pastoral Care Team is available. As part of the Ministerial Staff and the Pastoral Care Team, I am also available. You can contact me at pastoralcare@eliotchapel.org, and provide the phone number you want to be called at, and you will be called.

We are in a community that cares. When we are called upon, we can extend that care to Debby and her family. And we can also take care of one another in this time of sorrow.

In Community,

Rev. Dee Evans, Assistant Minister
