Consistent with our UUA commitment to a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person and justice, equity, and compassion in human relations, the Immigration Justice Team is focused on creating awareness and education about the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers looking for a safe place in the United States.
Getting here is only the beginning for immigrants. Once here, there are many legal, financial, social, and emotional hurdles to jump. After the service on February 23 which will focus on immigration experiences and issues, you can learn more about these topics. From 12:30 to 2:00 pm, the Immigration Justice Committee will hold a seminar to take a deeper dive into what happens to families and individuals once they actually get to the United States and attempt to settle in. We will have three speakers who will address different aspects of this time of adjustment. Kris Wollentik is an immigration lawyer who works for CLAM and she will speak about the legal hurdles facing the immigrants. Nancy Spargo from Eliot's Immigration Justice Committee will share some experiences of the family we sponsor as a congregation. Maria Torres Wedding from Colibri Consulting will talk about the difficulties of getting resources for these families. There will be time for discussion and questions.
Circumstances for new arrivals are likely to change in ways that will cause more suffering. The Immigration Justice Team feels that it is important to be informed to help in any way we are able. Please join us.
Join us in our historic Sanctuary or online each Sunday at 9:45 and 11:15 am. After the service, stay for Coffee Hour in Adams Hall.
The Eliot Chapel Front Office is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
